To understand and obtain new insights into the multi-scale dynamics of the urban environment (such as the heat waves, its influence on water and vegetation and thereby on the urban atmosphere and the built environment); this aims to achieve not only novel interpretations of such urban dynamics, but also to guide appropriate and meaningful reduction of complexity, and therefore development of appropriate models; such models will guide the design and development of mitigation and adaptation measures.

To respond to specific scientific and technological challenges that sustainable communities and cities face. This will involve transforming urban and mesoscale weather and climate models to powerful tools for providing insights and understanding into how best to devise mitigation and adaptation measures for cities and urban environments (encompassing for example, from urban materials specification up to vegetation and water impact).
